Eight acts could be set to fight for the right to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will be revealed on January 19.
Eight acts look set to take part in Das Deutsche Finale 2024 based on the episode count of “ESC vor acht ist zurück” (ESC before eight). Last week NDR announced that the artists competing in the Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2024 would be announced on January 19. A total of 693 applications were received for the selection, with the acts competing in the selection selected around Christmas time.
ESC vor acht is due to return starting February 5 and run for eight episodes, each with a 5-minute runtime and Alina Stiegler will once more be hosting.
Assuming that each episode is due to cover a single act, as was the case in 2022, it can be assumed that a maximum of 8 acts are due to participate in the German preselection. This would also be in line with past numbers of acts that have taken part in the German preselection ranging from 6 to 8 in recent years.
The air dates of the 8 Episodes of ESC vor acht are as follows and will run until the day of the eve of Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2024:

- Episode 2: Tuesday, February 6, 2024
- Episode 3: Wednesday, February 7, 2024
- Episode 4: Thursday, February 8, 2024
- Episode 5: Monday, February 12, 2024
- Episode 6: Tuesday, February 13, 2024
- Episode 7: Wednesday, February 14, 2024
- Episode 8: Thursday, February 15, 2024
Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2024 will be broadcast live from Berlin on February 16 on Das Erste, eurovision.de, and ARD Mediathek. It is unclear how many acts will be competing, but we know that one will be the winner of Ich Will Zum ESC! Tickets for the show will go on sale the same day the acts are announced on January 19.
Germany finished last in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, with Lord of the Lost and the song “Blood and Glitter”. The group scored 18 points across the juries and televote, marking a second consecutive last-place performance for Germany at the contest.

Germany was one of seven countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. The country has taken part in every contest since then, apart from in 1996 when they failed to make it through the qualifying round. To date Germany has won the contest twice. The first time was in 1982 when Nicole sang “Ein Bisschen Frieden” in Harrogate, which later became a global hit. Germany didn’t win again until 2010 when Lena sang “Satellite” in Oslo. She received 9 sets of 12 points, scoring 246 points overall.
There will be less than eight acts in the German national final, either six or seven.
