German broadcaster ARD has announced the broadcast of eight short shows to promote its national selection, its participants and the country’s Eurovision Song Contest history.
Germany 12 Points will be used to select the German representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy. The selection is set to be held on March 4 in Berlin, with the participants and competing songs being revealed from February 10.
The short five minute programme is called “ESC vor acht” (Eurovision before 8 o’clock) and will air right before the news at 8.15 pm CET to reach a bigger audience. “ESC vor acht” will be broadcast on the following days:

- Wednesday, February 23, 2022
- Thursday, February 24, 2022
- Monday, February 28, 2022
- Tuesday, March 1, 2022
- Wednesday, March 2, 2022
- Thursday, March 3, 2022
Another aim of the programme is to promote the online voting. Voting to determine the German representative will commence online from Monday February 28 and will remain open through to the selection on March 4.

Germany was one of seven countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. The country has taken part in every contest since then, apart from in 1996 when they failed to make it through the qualifying round. To date Germany has won the contest twice, the first time being in 1982 when Nicole sang “Ein Bisschen Frieden” in Harrogate, which later became a global hit. Germany didn’t win again until 2010 when Lena sang “Satellite” in Oslo. She received 9 sets of 12 points, scoring 246 points overall.
