Serbia & Montenegro participated in Eurovision contests between 2004 and 2006, before the country dissolved in June 2006.
Serbia & Montenegro and Eurovision
Serbia & Montenegro made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 and would compete in the contest twice. The country had been due to participate in the 2006 contest in Athens, Greece however withdrew from the contest in March 2006 after the country failed to submit an eligible entry due to a dispute between RTS and RTCG around the results of Evropesma-Europjesma 2006.
Serbia & Montenegro’s results in the contest were:
- 2004 – Željko Joksimović – “Lane moje” – 2nd – 263 points
- 2005 – No Name – “Zauvijek moja” – 7th – 137 points
- 2006 – No Name – “Moja ljubavi” – Withdrew from the contest
While Serbia & Montenegro did not compete in Eurovision 2006, the Serbian broadcaster RTS aired the contest and voted in the contest. This was the first time a country voted in the contest without a competing entry.
Participation in other EBU productions and contests
Serbia & Montenegro participated in two other Eurovision contests during its existence.
Junior Eurovision Song Contest
In 2005, Serbia & Montenegro made their only appearance in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Filip Vučić was selected through a national final with the song “Ljubav pa fudbal”, he finished 13th in Belgium with 29 points. RTCG and RTS had also broadcast the 2003 contest.
Eurovision Young Musicians
Serbia & Montenegro’s last Eurovision contest appearance came at Eurovision Young Musicians 2006. Marija Gođevac competed performing the piano in the first Semi-Final but failed to qualify for the final. The contest was aired by RTS.
Other Events and Broadcasts
RTS and RTCG both aired Congratulations: 50 Years of the Eurovision Song Contest live for viewers in Serbia and Montenegro. The nation voted ‘My Number One’ as the best Eurovision entry of all time.
