Cyprus has become the first country to confirm their participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017.

CyBC the national broadcaster of Cyprus has confirmed that they will be participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The announcement of Cypriot participation in the contest came yesterday at a press conference presenting the broadcasters plans for 2017. The broadcaster stated that they remained committed to “Entertainment, Culture and Information”.ย 2017 will mark 60 years since CyBC first began broadcasting, with CyBC planning closer co-operation from 2017 onwards with ERT the Greek national broadcaster.

The announcement of Cyprus’ participation in next years Junior Eurovision Song Contest comes just under two months before the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Cyprus are returning to the contest this year having not participated in 2015. They are being represented by George Michaelides with the song “Dance Floor!”, the song and music video are yet to be revealed to the public.

Cyprusย participated in the first Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 where they were represented by Theodora Rafti, she finished 14 with just 16 points. The countries best result came in 2004 when Marios Tofi finished 8th with the song “Oniera” scoring a total of 61 points. In 2008 Cyprus hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, on home soil they were represented by Elena Mannouri & Charis Saava they finished 10th with 46 points. This years contest will be the 9th time that Cyprus will have performed on the Junior Eurovision stage.

  2. Some countries haven’t shown their decision yet for Junior Eurovision 2016 (France, Israel, Sweden, etc) and Cyprus already confirms their participation in 2017? Whoah!

  6. Yes. Cyprus confirmed to be the first in the 2017 edition. I hope that Spain, UK and Sweden will return in 2017.
