Rijnmond will be represented by the rapper Braidy with “Banaan” at the Regio Songfestival 2024.
Braidy has won the Rijnmond selection for the Regio Songfestival 2024 and will compete in Maastricht this November. He beat competition from four other acts to be chosen as Rijnmond’s entry for the contest. Braidy is the stage nation for 24-year-old Brian Haak who started releasing humorous house rap in February.
“Banaan” was the favourite of the public vote receiving almost 38% of the votes cast during the online voting window. A jury also helped to determine the Rijnmond selection, with Eurovision 2012 participant Joan Franka heading the jury, she commented:
‘With the song Banaan, Braidy puts a smile on everyone’s face within a few seconds, and the chorus stays in your head for hours. Sitting still is not an option! We are looking forward to putting down a cool, unique act with Braidy in Maastricht”.
Regio Songfestival 2024
Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht will be the venue for the second edition of the Regio Songfestival on November 9. The Province of Limburg is hosting the contest having won the first edition last year in Utrecht.
The competition is styled on the Eurovision Song Contest, RTV Utrecht hosted the first edition. Songs are performed in Dutch or the language of their region. The Regio Song Contest is organised by all thirteen regional broadcasters and is made possible by Buma Cultuur, AVROTROS and K.F Hein Fonds.
