Malta: Junior Eurovision 2020 National Final on September 19

PBS, the Maltese national broadcaster, has revealed that the Maltese Junior Eurovision national final will take place this Saturday, September 19.

The Maltese Junior Eurovision national final will be broadcast live on TVM1 at 18:15 CET, after the Saturday evening news bulletin. The show will be presented by Amber and Dorian Casar. Amber represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with “Warrior”. Dorian Casar is a television and radio presenter. A combination of jury voting (50%) and public voting (50%) will decide the winner.

The 12 competing acts are:

  1. Leah Cauchi – Anġli (Angels)
  2. Michela Caruana – Replay
  3. Emma Cutajar – Modern-Day Cinderella
  4. Mariah Cefai – Change the Silence
  5. Chanel Monseigneur – Chasing Sunsets
  6. Anneka Xerri – Moving
  7. Mychael Bartolo Chircop – The Child From Inside
  8. Yulan Law & Gianluca Cilia – Deck of Cards
  9. Leah Mifsud – Anywhere
  10. Kaya Gouder Curmi – Made of Stars
  11. Isaac Tom – Beside Me
  12. Zaira Mifsud & Eksenia Sammut – Only Live Once

Gianluca Cilia previously represented Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with “Dawra Tond”, where he finished in 9th place. If he wins, he would be the first returning artist in Junior Eurovision since Lerika (Moldova 2011 and Russia 2012) and the first male returning artist.

Eliana Gomez Blanco represented Malta in last year’s contest in Gliwice with “We Are More”. She finished last with 29 points, which was Malta’s worst result since 2005.

Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Malta debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 and has gone on to win the contest twice. In 2013 on their return to the competition in Kyiv, Gaia Cauchi won the competition with “The Start”, she was the first winner of a Eurovision event for Malta. In 2015 Destiny Chukunyere took victory in Sofia, Bulgaria with the song “Not My Soul”. Malta finished last at the 2005 contest in Belgium with the song “Make It Right” performed by Thea & Friends.
