Varna, Bulgaria’s third-largest city and DARA’s hometown, has expressed interest in hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.

The Mayor of Varna stated that he would like to see the city host the 71st edition of the contest next year. In statement for Bulgarian media, he described Varna as a city with rich cultural herritage, strong tourist appeal, an established international scene, and a youthful spirit. He added that DARA’s hometown has every reason to be part of the national conversation surrounding the hosting of Eurovision 2027.

The mayor also highlighted the city’s long experience in organizing large-scale events, mentioning the International Music Festival Varna Summer, one of the oldest music festivals in Europe, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary this summer.

However, Varna is unlikely to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 due to the lack of a suitably sized venue. The Palace of Culture and Sports is one of Bulgaria’s five largest indoor concert venues, but its largest hall, Kongresna Hall, accomodates only around 6,000 spectators. Eurovision host venues are currently required by the EBU to hold a minimum of 10,000 people.

To date, the following cities in Bulgaria have stated their intention to bid to host the contest:

The mayor has also also submitted a proposal to the Municipal Council for DARA to receive the title of “Honorary Citizen of Varna”. The proposal aims to recognize the artist’s talent, stage presence, and contribution to promoting both Varna and Bulgaria on the European music scene. He described DARA as one of Bulgaria’s leading contemporary artists and a strong ambassador of the city’s young creative energy.

Varna is Bulgaria’s third-largest city and the largest seaside resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. The metropolian area of Varna has slightly below 420,000 inhabitants.
