Austria: Bella Wagner – Interview

Will Bella represent Austria in Stockholm?

Austria selects their song for Stockholm tomorrow and over the next day we will be bringing you our final three interviews with the hopefuls in the contest. We caught up with Bella Wagner who is hoping that “Weapons Down” will take her to Sweden this May.

May I start by thanking you for talking to us, can you tell us a bit more about yourself?

It’s my pleasure. Well, about me I can say – I love life, music & art. I love being creative and enjoy collaborating with various talented artists and musicians. Now and then I am in nature to regain power – far away from handys, computers and WLAN.

Back in 2014 you participated in “Das Supertalent” what was that experience like?

It was very exciting and actually a lot of pressure, because you have 2 minutes to perform and give your very best.

Last year Austria hosted the Eurovision Song Contest what was it like to have the contest in your country and how did it influence your decision to participate in the Austrian selection?

It was a great feeling to have Eurovision Songcontest in our country. Well I was always fascinated by ESC, where various talents participate from different countries and cultures. It is overwhelming to participate at the Austrian finals this year.

Your song is called „ Weapons Down” can you tell us more about it?

“Weapons Down” is focused on humanity. It is an invitation to think, to understand, and act consciously – to protect life.

The main motivation for the song were all the children and innocent people who have suffered because of war or violence with weapons. With „Weapons Down“, I speak/sing as a representative for all who are against war and stand for peace; for the present and future generations”. At this very moment, in which so many people are living in fear, I feel it is extremely important to remind everyone of one important message: PEACE

The song was produced by Austrian Dj/ producer, Masta Huda and composed by Armenian pianist, Hovannes Djibian, who grew up in Lebanon during civil war. I simply loved and enjoyed this teamwork. Extremely positive vibes are connected with WEAPONS DOWN – This lifted the song to a very emotional and powerful level.

Now you were involved in the writing of your song, how important is it for you to be involved in the songs you sing?

Very important. My intention is not only to entertain, but also change things in a positive way with music. Most of the songs start with a strong feeling, a vision, a title.

You have a background of both Croat and Slovak do you ever brings the sounds of these countries into your music?

Hm… the temperament of course 🙂

What is your earliest memory of the Eurovision Song Contest?

There are a lot that I remember, what I liked a lot was Euphoria – Loreen. Her performance was extremely impressive.

What can we expect from your performance in the selection?

Emotions, and the will to change something into good.

Finally do you have a message for the readers of Eurovoix.com ?

Love life, have a great time and seize the special moments in live.

We wish Bella the best of luck for the contest tomorrow night, take a listen to her song below:
