ESC 2014: Australia Gets Control Of Semi Final 2 Interval

Australia Make It To The Eurovision Stage

DR of Denmark has given control of the interval act for semi final 2 of Eurovision 2014 to SBS Australia. Australia has a long connection with the contest having had a number of Australian entrants in the contest such as Gina G (UK 1996) and Johnny Logan (Ireland 1980 & 1987), as well as broadcasting the contest on delay on SBS.

Mikke Bech told Eurovision.tv that:

They will come up here with a huge display of all possible senses that represent what Australia is. They are going to work visually with what Europe means to them and what Australia means to us in Europe, so it is going to be big and spectacular – and it is going to involve a lot of humour.

Eurovision has become one of the largest TV events for SBS, bringing in over 500,000 viewers annually as well as holding their own Australian televote for the contest.

This is not the first time Australia will have made an appearance in a Eurovision show. At Junior Eurovision 2011 when an Australian boy started off the voting by giving all of the entrants 12 points. All participants in Junior Eurovision are given 12 points by the EBU to ensure that no one ends with 0 points.

SBS are running a special contest for Australian fans, 2 fans can win a trip to Copenhagen. All you have to do is guess which Australian star which launched there career on a reality TV programme will be performing in Copenhagen as the interval act.  Find out more here.
