NRK this morning have released all of the songs taking part in Melodi Grand Prix in full. A total of 15 acts are taking part in this years selection which is spread over a week in March.
This year the aim of the contest is to get the songs played outside of just the MGP environment. A number of radio stations were sent all of the songs in this years contest last week so that they can be played in the build up to the contest. Borch Bugge who is head of NRK’s P3 said that:
Overall, I think the level is higher this year than last year. There are many that operate in the same musical landscape and reflect what’s popular on the music scene there.
The head of NRK P1 said that:
We at P1 wish there were more Eurovision songs in Norwegian, as Moi’s “Bensin” is certainly a welcome song with us. Carl Espen ballad “Silent Storm” is great, and it is fresh and nice with rock, so El Cueros “Is not No Love (In This City No More)” is also relevant, he said.
This year saw Vivi Stenburg take charge of MGP revamping the format and bringing her own stamp to the contest. She told NRK that:
I am quite sure that there are songs here that many people are going to like, she says.
You can listen to all of the songs on a Spotify playlist that NRK have created here and on WIMP here.
