Stefano De Martino confirmed that the Italian representative at the Eurovision 2027 will be chosen on February 19.

The Artistic Director of Festival di Sanremo 2027, Stefano De Martino, confirmed in an interview with local media outlet Corriere della Sera that Italy will chose their representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 with a specific competition, that will be held on the fourth night of the Festival.

This comes as a confirmation of the latest reports that were speculating a change in the organisation of the Festival. De Martino assured that the Cover Night, usually held on the fourth night, has not been scrapped. The Artistic Director will now allow less artists in the competition, who will perform their songs for the first time on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Cover Night will be moved to Thursday, the Eurovision night on Friday, and the Final will take place on Saturday:

“The artists will have the opportunity to stage their performances according to their creative vision. And I believe this is already a small boost towards the Festival’s international scope.”

The artist representing Italy in Bulgaria and the one winning Sanremo 2027 could be the same, if the vote were to coincide; however, the mechanism has not been established or decided yet. In addition to this, De Martino also confirmed his role as Artistic Director for Festival di Sanremo until 2028.
