🇧🇬 Eurovision 2027: Four Cities Have Submitted Their Bids to Host

The four Bulgarian cities who have each expressed their wishes to host the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest have now submitted their bids.

Four cities each with a desire to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 have now submitted their proposals to host broadcaster BNT, with the deadline for applications having expired today, 3rd July.

The Bulgarian capital, Sofia and the coastal city of Burgas are generally viewed as the favourites to host the competition, as being the only two cities with an indoor arena capable of hosting the contest. Plovdiv’s and Varna’s potential venues would each require significant expansion within a short time window to be capable of hosting the competition.

The successful city that will host the world’s biggest live music event will be determined by the end of July, with BNT Director General Milena Milotinova saying:

“We are not just looking for a place to hold the music event, but a partner city that will walk the entire way with us until May 2027.

We have created a working group to evaluate the proposals. It starts working from Monday according to the clear criteria and standards of the EBU. We will inform you in stages.”

The bidding process was launched in June after BNT met with the mayors of Sofia, Burgas, Plovdiv and Varna. BNT presented the four cities with the requirements and technical specifications that the cities will be assessed against. The four cities must meet a number of specific requirements according to the European Broadcasting Union and BNT, which includes:

• A fully equipped event hall with appropriate capacity and infrastructure
• Good international connections
• Sufficient accommodation in the region
• Clear organisational, security, and sustainable implementation capabilities
• The venue must have the capacity for at least 10,000 people
• The venue must be available for a period of eight weeks at a minimum, seven weeks before the final and one week after the final

Eurovision 2027

Bulgaria was the winner of the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. The song that Dara performed in Vienna was called “Bangaranga”. It was written and composed by Anne Judith Wik, Cristian Tarcea, Darina Yotova (Dara), Dimitris Kontopoulos.

The result brings Bulgaria its first victory in the Eurovision Song Contest. DARA is also the first artist since Salvador Sobral in 2017 to win both the public and jury votes. Prior to this, the country’s best result was second place, achieved by Kristian Kostov in 2017. Bulgaria emerged as a dark horse winner, that climbed rapidly in the betting odds after the second rehearsal.
