The Prime Minister of Luxembourg has confirmed his country’s intention to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Bulgaria.
Prime Minister Frieden has confirmed in the Chamber of Deputies that he intends for Luxembourg to continue to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. The comment comes ahead of discussions between RTL and the Luxembourgish Government about the Government continuing to provide financial support to enable the Grand Duchy’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.
According to RTL Today, Frieden stated that “organisational, artistic, and financial questions still need to be resolved by the working group, but he is confident that a solution can be found.” The Prime Minister states that the Eurovision Song Contest is a valuable opportunity to show Luxembourg on the international stage and allow Luxembourgish talent to be seen abroad.
Eva Marija represented Luxembourg at Eurovision 2026 with “Mother Nature” but failed to qualify for the final. Luxembourg were 12th in Semi-Final Two, 62 points away from qualifying for the final. This is the first time that Luxembourg has failed to qualify for the final since their return to the contest in 2023.

Luxembourg was one of seven countries to take part in the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Luxembourg participated in the contest 37 times before withdrawing from the contest after 1993. During these 37 years, they won the contest five times. The last of these victories came in 1983. Luxembourg came close to returning to the contest in 2004, but opted against it due to the financial cost of participating. They eventually returned in 2024, after an absence of 31 years.
