The Romanian public broadcaster TVR has announced a new series following the nation’s preparations for competing in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.
‘Drumul spre Viena’ will commence on April 14 and will follow Romania’s return to the Eurovision Song Contest. The series, which is presented by Liana Stanciu, will air on TVR1 and TVRi weekly, showing Alexandra Cฤpitฤnescu’s journey from winning the Romanian selection to preparing to take to the stage in Vienna.
During the coming episodes viewers will be taken through Alexandra’s work on her performance for Vienna, her promotional activities ahead of the contest. The show will also feature interviews from past winners and former Eurovision participants from Romania and internationally. The final episode post Eurovision 2026 will be a reflection on Alexandra Cฤpitฤnescu’s participation.
Romania is returning to the Eurovision Song Contest this year, having last competed in Liverpool in 2023. Alexandra Cฤpitฤnescu will perform third in the second semi-final on May 14.

Romania first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. The country tried to participate in 1993 but failed to get through the pre-qualifying round. At the 1994 contest, Dan Bittman finished 21st in the final scoring 14 points, Romania didnโt make it through to another final until 1998. Romaniaโs best results in the contest are two third-place finishes. In 2005, Luminita Anghel & Sistem finished 3rd scoring 158 points, while Paula Seling & Ovi finished 3rd in 2010 with the song โPlaying with Fireโ. Romania missed the 2016 contest due to TVR being removed from the EBU due to debts to the organisation. Romania has not participated in Eurovision since 2023, coming back only this year.
