Benidorm is discussing with the Spanish public broadcaster a national selection show to select the nations entry for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Speaking to El Español, Councillor for Events, Jesús Carrobles, explained that Benidorm is exploring ways to expand and grow Benidorm Fest. One proposal is the creation of Benidorm Fest Junior, which would be used to select the Spanish entry for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Mr. Carrobles commented:
“TVE is also keen; we’re taking the first steps to see if we can hold a pre-selection for Junior Eurovision”
Spain has not held a televised national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since 2006. Eurojunior was a talent show that was used between 2003 and 2006 to select the Spanish entry for Junior Eurovision. In the final edition in 2006, a single-night final was held where five finalists were coached by an established artist.
RTVE has yet to state whether it will compete in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2026. The Spanish broadcaster withdrew from the competition in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in protest at Israel’s continued participation in the competition. Israel does not currently compete in Junior Eurovision.
Gonzalo Pinillos represented Spain at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with “Érase Una Vez (Once Upon a Time)”. He placed 5th in the final, scoring 152 points, including 12 points from the Portuguese jury.

Spain first took part in the contest in 2003 and participated every year between then and 2006. In 2004, María Isabel brought Spain their only victory so far with “Antes muerta que sencilla”. After an absence of 13 years, Spain returned to the contest in 2019 with “Marte” by Melani García. Spain had always finished in the top 5 until the 2021 contest, when Levi Díaz finished in 15th place. The 2024 contest was hosted in Madrid, the first Eurovision contest to take place in Spain since Eurovision 1969.
