Approximately 1.3 million viewers in Spain tuned in to watch the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 last night.
Spanish broadcaster La 1 reported that a total of 1,348,000 viewers watched the first semi-final with an average audience share of 11%. The broadcaster also revealed that 6,014,000 viewers had watched at least one minute of the show on La 1. The highest rated age group was 13-24 year-olds with an 19.8% audience share, while among young adults between the ages of 25-44 saw an audience share of 19.7%.
These figures show an increase in viewership compared to 2024. This year’s first semi-final saw an increase of 656,000 viewers, with an increase of 5.3 points in the audience share, compared to the first semi-final of 2024, which drew 772,000 viewers with a 5.7 audience share. The contest was moved from La 2 to La 1 this year, which has helped boost the audience.
The figures show that if we compare the audience of the first semi-final this year with the second semi-final of last year, which were both broadcast on La 1, this year saw 63,000 more viewers and an increase of 0.6 points. In 2024, the second semi-final on La 1 was followed by 1,285,000 viewers and a 10.4% audience share.
Spain was among the countries that voted and performed in Semi-Final One. Melody is automatically qualified for the Grand Final on May 17, but like all Big Five nations and the host country, performs in one of the two Semi-Finals as a showcase.
Who is Melody?
Melodía Ruiz Gutiérrez, better known as Melody, was born in 1990 in Dos Hermanas, Seville. She grew up in a musical household, influenced by her father, Lorenzo Ruiz Molina, the leader of the flamenco group Los Kiyos, and her mother, Ana Gutiérrez Flores. From a young age, Melody showed an extraordinary talent for music and performance.

Spain debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 and has competed annually since, making them the longest participating country that has never withdrawn. Spain has won the contest on two occasions; the first being in 1968 and the second time in 1969. 1969 is the only year where more than one song has won the contest. The 1969 contest saw a four-way tie between Spain, France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
