The first semi-final, in which Red Sebastian will participate, will be shown in Kursaal, a concert hall in the city, on May 13. If Red Sebastian qualifies for the final, then the final will be shown live in the VIP room in the stadium of local football club KVD Oostende on May 17.

Tickets for both events cost €5. Tickets for the final screening will go on sale from 08:00 CET on May 14. You can buy tickets here.

Red Sebastian thanked his hometown for their support:

“I moved to Ghent because it’s more convinient for my job and it’s more central. However, I’m still an Ostend guy through and through. It’s the city where I grew up and where my family still lives.”

Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest

Belgium was one of the seven nations who participated in the first edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. To date, the country has won the contest only once in 1986. Sandra Kim won the contest with the song “J’aime la vie”. Her victory was not without controversy when it emerged that Sandra was just 13 years old, two years younger than the age restriction at the time. In the late 00s, Belgium struggled in the contest, failing to reach the final annually from 2005 until 2010, when Tom Dice finished 6th in the final with 143 points. Belgium has finished last at the contest eight times, including two sets of nul points.
