Ahead of her upcoming London show this May, Georgian-Greek pop singer Tamta has unveiled her new single ‘KHORUMI’ from her latest recently released EP ‘The Villain’.
KHORUMI is deeply personal yet universally resonant. Inspired by the dynamic rhythm of the traditional Georgian doli drum, the song embodies themes of resilience, freedom, and unity. It’s a musical narrative of searching, confronting, and celebrating victory.
Many may remember Tamta from Eurovision 2019 – representing Cyprus with her upbeat pop anthem ‘Replay’, ultimately finishing 13th in the Grand Final. Now the singer has revealed her newest single ‘KHORUMI’ from her new EP ‘The Villain’.
While ‘KHORUMI’ drives leftfield from Tamta’s usual music scene, the singer aims to create a visionary fusion of electronic and pop instrumentation, as well as merging inspiration from traditional Georgian war dances – with lyrics both in Greek and Georgian.
The music video production and black-and-white aesthetic of ‘KHORUMI’ was directed by Alexander Stamatiadias. Acclaimed stylist Beau Tiger Rae, also known for work in Vogue and collaborations with Bambie Thug (Ireland 2024), Abigail Morris, HAYLA and Luna, has styled Tamta’s look for ‘KHORUMI’.
In particular ‘KHORUMI’ holds a special place in Tamta’s heart as this new single heralds an innovative new chapter in Tamta’s illustrious career. The song itself blends together darker electronic-pop with the traditional ethnic beats of the Georgian Doli drum, further embracing Tamta’s own cultural identity – embodying the sheer strength and prowess of the traditional Georgian war dance.
The Georgian-Greek singer wanted to showcase “resilience, freedom, and unity”. She creates a “musical narrative of searching, confronting, and celebrating victory”.
Tamta’s ever-evolving musical identity embraces the fluidity and duality of the singer’s artistry with her latest EP ‘The Villain’ exploring the darker and edgier forms and structures of a much larger music project, the singer expects to complete throughout 2025.
Tamta’s newest fusion of genre-defying music, blending together traditional pop with hyper pop, techno and electronic instrumentation; the singer’s artistry puts her in line with other global pop-stars, with the likes of Charli XCX, FKA Twigs, and Arca.
The unveiling of ‘The Villain’ and ‘KHORUMI’ come during one of the most dynamic artist of Tamta – with the singer having performed several highly-captivating performances at Madwalk 2024.
With the newest edition of ‘KHORUMI’, Tamta establishes herself as an ever-growing and evolving cultural artistic force. This showcases her fearless attitude in exploring new typologies and merging them with her own culture – creating a storm of bravery and free expression.
Over the years, she has amassed an immense number of streams and YouTube views – stretching over 250 million. In addition, her previous single ‘ANAKATA’, which had garnered more than 769,000 views, had featured in the likes of Vogue and Madame Figaro, as well as various collaborations with international brands.
While her newest EP ‘The Villain’ and ‘KHORUMI’ have remained Tamta’s momentous highlight over the last few weeks, the singer today releases her newest EP ‘The Heroine’ with one of the singles ‘Chrome Hearts’ ft Saske having already been released. The overall atmosphere of ‘Heroine’ is much more uplifting compared to the darker tones of her previous EP. This further showcases Tamta’s adaptability of her dynamic artistry utilising new and venturesome genres and styles.
Tamta’s newest concert will take place at Colours Hoxton in London on Friday, May 2nd, 2025. Audiences attending the singer’s show can look forward towards a highly hypnotising and immersive experience – influenced by Tamta’s recent eccentric virtuosity, as well as her sold-out residency at SMUT Athens—a venue that introduced the Berlin-style Berghain vibe to the Athenian queer techno club scene.
Expect performances of exceptionally electrifying aesthetics and dynamic choreography of a multitude of songs from her LP ‘Identity Crisis’, as well as her EP’s ‘The Villain’ and ‘The Heroine’.
Since representing Cyprus at the 2019 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, Tamta, as an artist, has evolved exponentially through the collaboration and fusion of blending her roots with major influential global sounds.
With the inclusion of the traditional Georgian percussion instrument – the Doli, Georgians should be incredibly proud of Tamta embracing her Georgian identity on an international stage – stating the importance of one’s own identity and being proud of it.
