The Isle of Man has selected its entry for the Pan Celtic Song Contest 2024 this April in Carlow, Ireland.
The final of Arrane son Mannin, the Isle of Man’s selection for the Pan Celtic Song Contest took place last night in Peel. A total of six entries were received for the contest with the duo of Sarah Mercer and Mera Royle selected as the winners.
They are set to perform a Manx language song composed by Matthew Warren at the 46th edition of the competition. The Isle of Man is looking to take victory 10 years on from their first and only victory in the contest.
What is the Pan Celtic Song Contest?
The Pan Celtic Song Contest has been held annually since 1971 and is part of the Pan Celtic Festival. The aim of the contest is to promote modern Celtic languages and cultures from the six Celtic nations of:
- Brittany
- Cornwall
- Ireland
- Isle of Man
- Scotland
- Wales
Wales is the most successful nation at the competition having won the event a total of 15 times. In contrast, the Isle of Man has won the event only once in 2014.
