NRK has launched its selection process for Eurovision Young Musicians 2024 which will be held in Norway.
Virtuos will be the Norwegian selection process for Eurovision Young Musicians again for the 2024 contest. The format has been used to select the Norwegian representative for Eurovision Young Musicians since 2006.
The selection is open to young musicians aged between 12 and 21 years old as of August 17, 2024. The competition is only open to soloists, and submissions should a self-selected repertoire of preferably two different eras. Submissions are open until December 4, 2024.
From the submissions received a line-up of Semi-Finalists will be chosen with the Semi-Final held at the NRK studios in February. Four finalists will be selected from the Semi-Final, with the Norwegian representative being selected on April 6.
Alma Serafin Kraggerud represented Norway at Eurovision Young Musicians 2022 in Montpellier, France. She placed 3rd in the final, bringing Norway its best result since victory in 2012.
Eurovision Young Musicians 2024
Eurovision Young Musicians 2024 will be held in the city of Bodø. Bodø which will be the European Capital of Culture is playing host to a Eurovision event for the first time, while Young Musicians returns to Norway for the first time since 2000.
The twenty-first edition of the contest will be held on August 17. To date, two countries have confirmed their participation in the contest:
- Norway – NRK
- Slovenia – RTVSLO
The competition for musicians between the ages of 12 and 21 and has been held since 1982, as the first spin-off contest of the Eurovision Song Contest. The event celebrated its twentieth edition in 2022 when Montpellier, France hosted the competition.
Over the twenty editions of the competition, a total of forty-two countries have competed across the history of the competition. Norway has competed in nineteen out of the twenty contests, tied with Austria. Austria is the most successful country having won 5 editions and competed in 15 finals.
