The United Kingdom joins two other OGAE clubs in withdrawing from the OGAE Song Contest 2022.
The United Kingdom has withdrawn from competing in the OGAE Song Contest following a decision not to remove the Russian OGAE club from the contest for its support of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The United Kingdom joins OGAE Ukraine who withdrew from the competition on September 9 and Germany who withdrew on September 15.
OGAE Ukraine had also called on OGAE to remove the club from the contest as its entry is said to be involved in Putin’s propaganda campaign supporting the war within Russia.
The OGAE UK membership was asked in a vote to decide whether to remain in the contest or withdrew. 1,015 (72.34%) voted to withdrew, 312 (22.24%) voted to remain and 76 (5.32%) abstained from the vote.
