The first comments since the reveal of Hispavisión have been made by the President of the Spanish public broadcaster.
José Manuel Pérez Tornero the President of the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has given his first comments on the planned Hispavisión Song Contest, since the competition was first announced in February this year. Speaking to Faro de Vigo, the President of RTVE explained that:
We are thinking of a very innovative way that involves social networks, popular music, that enhances the ability of Latin music to be seen in the world.
He explained that the contest will not just be another OTI Festival or a Latin American Eurovision, but will have a different feel to it.
The competition is set to be held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia in 2023. It has already been confirmed that Portugal and Brazil will be invited to compete in the contest.
Hispavisión is not the first song contest to be organised for the Hispanic-speaking world. The OTI Festival was an annual song contest held between 1972 and 2000 which featured Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries competing. During its time the following countries competed:
