Two countries have confirmed that this year they will not participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
The Austrian and Norwegian broadcasters, ORF and NRK, have confirmed to Eurovoix that they will not be participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia.
Norway last participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, when Malin Reitan came third with “Sommer og skolefri”, Norway’s best result in the contest. Norway was one of the original 16 countries to take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and hosted the 2004 contest in Lillehammer. Norway also took part in MGP Nordic alongside Denmark, Sweden and Finland in 2002 and from 2006 to 2009.
Austria has never shown interest in participating in this competition, they however participate in the the Eurovision family contest, Eurovision Young Musicians.
Junior Eurovision 2022
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 will take place in Armenia, following the country’s victory at the 2021 contest in Paris. This is the second time Armenia has won the contest, the first being in 2010. To date, the following countries have confirmed participation or expressed their interest:
- Armenia
- Bulgaria
- France
- Georgia
- Ireland
- Netherlands
- Poland
- Spain

Nordic countries can’t be out of Junior Eurovision forever. It’s up to Norway’s other EBU member, TV2, to take over while Iceland debuts and comes back.
