RTVSLO, the Slovenian national broadcaster, has revealed the dates, presenters and draw for EMA 2022.
Melani Mekicar and Bojan Cvjetićanin will host EMA 2022. Melani shared her thoughts about hosting EMA:
“It is a huge honour for me and Bojan to be entrusted with hosting such a large and important festival as EMA 2022. There’s not a year that I haven’t watched the Eurovision Song Contest, so this is a really special moment for me. This year, I think EMA is very special, because there will be a lot of young, fresh musicians, but they take performing very seriously.”
Bojan added:
“EMA and the Eurovision Song Contest have always been a mini holiday for me, and at a time when we are surrounded by bad news and negative energy prevails, we urgently need a good dose of fun. I hope that viewers will be able to sit in front of TV screens and enjoy music.”
Following the EMA FREŠ final on January 28, EMA 2022 will consist of two semi-finals on February 5 and 12. In each semi-final, eight established will compete against two EMA FREŠ winners for one of six places in the Grand Final. A jury will select three finalists while public voting will select another three. In the Grand Final on February 19, a combination of five juries (50%) and public voting (50%) will select the Slovenian entry for Eurovision 2022.

Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Slovenia was one of three countries to join the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993. The country qualified through a specially organised selection round called “Kvalifikacija za Millstreet” which was hosted in Slovenia, seven countries competed for three spots in Eurovision 1993. The country has participated in 22 editions of the Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result came in 1995 when Darja Švajger finished 7th scoring a total of 84 points, she is closely followed by Nuša Derenda who finished 7th in the 2001 contest with 70 points.
