The Dutch Government has approved 12.4 Million Euro of funding to be used to host the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest.
The Minister for Media has approved a total of 12.4 Million Euro to be allocated to NOS, AVROTROS and NPO for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands. The public broadcasters had previously asked the Government for assistance to ensure that the contest could be adequately hosted.
The 12.4 Million Euros comes from the General Media Reserve, which is an existing pot of money reserved for public broadcasters. This means that the funding does not require the sign off of the cabinet.
The cost of the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest is estimated to be 26.5 million Euro. NPO is contributing 4.5 million Euro and AVROTROS a further 9.6 million Euro. The remaining funding approved today covers the previous gap that the broadcasters were unable to secure.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 takes place in the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, The Netherlands on the 12th, 14th and 16th of May. The Netherlands won the right to host the competition following their win in 2019 with Duncan Laurence and the song “Arcade”.
