The Israeli national broadcaster has revealed that for the first time it will be providing services to enable deaf and blind viewers to watch the Eurovision Song Contest.
As part of hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, KAN will be broadcasting online accessible versions of the contest live from Tel Aviv. For deaf viewers sign language interpretation will be provided by Sign Now Team, who have already begun working on their plans for the contest.
KAN will actively promote the three different broadcasts in the run up to the contest to ensure that as many people are able to be involved with Eurovision 2019.
A number of broadcasters across Europe also provide sign language coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest. Since 2014 the following broadcasters across Europe have made the contest accessible to viewers with hearing difficulties:
- Austria – ORF 2 (2016)
- Denmark – DR Ramasjang (2014, 2015, 2016)
- Lithuania – LRT Kultura (2016)
- Norway – NRK Tegnspråk (2016, 2017)
- Sweden – SVT24 (2016, 2018)
Tel Aviv will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in the Expo Tel Aviv (International Convention Centre) on May 14, 16 and 18 2019. After receiving bids from several cities across Israel, the final two remaining candidate cities were Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. KAN recommended Tel Aviv to the Reference Group.
