Jürgen Marcus who represented Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest 1976 has died at the age of 69.
German schlager singer Jürgen Marcus has passed away at the age of 69 after a long illness. The singer had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease since 2012 and had retired from public life just over five years ago. The singers manager and partner Nikolas Fischer announced that;
With a heavy heart, I announce that Jürgen Marcus has lost the fight against the chronic lung disease and died in mid-May in our apartment in Munich
The singer rose to fame in his native Germany after releasing “Eine neue Liebe ist wie ein neues Leben” (A New Love is Like a New Life), the song reached number two in the charts and was his biggest commercial success. He went on to have three consecutive top ten hits in Germany and even stared in a feature film.
In 1976 Jürgen Marcus participated in Luxembourg’s selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest. He was selected with the song “Chansons pour ceux qui s’aiment” from the five competing acts in the selection process. At the competition he finished 14th out of 18 competing acts scoring 17 points.
