Sandra Kurzweil will join Sunay Balkan and Rachelle Jeanty as a backing vocalist at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Cesár Sampson, the Austrian representative in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, has revealed that Sandra Kurzweil will provide backing vocals during his performance in Lisbon alongside Sunay Balkan and Rachelle Jeanty, who were announced as his other backing vocalists earlier this week. Sandra is an alto singer and has known Cesár for many years.
Cesár, who was part of Symphonix International, is no stranger to the Eurovision stage, having acted as vocal producer and backing-vocalist for the past two Bulgarian entries. He has also revealed that his favourite Eurovision entry is Jamala’s 1944 and favourite Austrian entry is the 2014 winner, Rise like a Phoenix by Conchita Wurst.
He follows last year’s Austrian entrant Nathan Trent who finished 16th in Eurovision 2017 with Running on Air. Nathan scored all of his points with the jury as he scored nul points from the public.

Austria debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957, Bob Martin represented the country on their debut, but finished in last place scoring just 3 points. The country has gone on to finish last in the contest on 8 occasions. Austria has won the contest on two occasions, the first being in 1966 when Udo Jürgen performed “Merci, Cherie”. It was 48 years later than Austria won again when Conchita Wurst performed “Rise Like a Phoenix” scoring a total of 290 points.
