Hungary: AWS Release English Version of “Viszlát nyár”

AWS have released an English version of their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 “Viszlát nyár”.

Hungary’s AWS have today released the English version to their Eurovision 2018 entry “Viszlát nyár”. The English version of the song has been called “Summer gone”, despite the literal translation of the song being titled “Goodbye, summer”. AWS are one of a number of acts this year performing in their own language, the song marks the sixth time Hungary has performed in Hungarian since the abolition of the language rule in 1999.

AWS is a metal band from Budakeszi, Hungary. Formed in 2006, the band is made up of Bence Brucker, Dániel Kökényes, Örs Siklósi, Áron Veress, and Soma Schiszler. The group is well known for their rock style, and throughout their career, they have released three singles, three albums and produced seven video clips. AWS has toured beyond Hungary, as they traveled to Austria, England, Romania, and Slovenia, and have played at festivals such as Sziget Festival. They have also won the MTV Brand award for New Winning Band. In Lisbon they will perform  “Viszlát nyár”.

Hungary debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, they were represented by Friderika Bayer and the song “Kinek mondjam el vetkeimet”. She went on to finish in 4th place scoring a total of 122 points and four sets of 12 points. This result remains’ Hungary’s best in their history in the contest. Hungary participated from 1994 to 1994 before withdrawing until 2005, the country didn’t return again until 2008. Hungary then once again withdrew in 2010 before returning in 2011. Since their return in 2011 Hungary has qualified for the final every year.
