Austria’s representative for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Cesár Sampson, has met up with two past Eurovision stars.
Ahead of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Cesár Sampson met up with former Austrian Eurovision entrants Nathan Trent (2017) and Zoe (2016) at Senhor Vinho, a Portuguese restaurant in the Austrian capital Vienna. The pair gave Cesár advice and retold their experiences of the contest, stating:
“Even with all the stress that comes with it, try to enjoy this unique moment!”.
Nathan Trent represented the country in 2017 with his song “Running On Air”, placing 16th in the Grand Final. Zoe took to the stage the year before with her song “Loin D’ici”, ending in 13th position in the Grand Final. Cesár is the next hopeful who will be performing in the second half of the first Semi-Final on Tuesday 8th May.
Cesár, as part of Symphonix International, is no stranger to the Eurovision stage, having acted as vocal producer and backing-vocalist for the past two Bulgarian entries. He has also revealed that his favourite Eurovision entry is Jamala’s 1944 and favourite Austrian entry is the 2014 winner, Rise like a Phoenix by Conchita Wurst.
Internally selected by Austrian broadcaster ORF, Cesár will be singing “Nobody But You”.

Austria debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957, Bob Martin represented the country on their debut, but finished in last place scoring just 3 points. The country has gone on to finish last in the contest on 8 occasions. Austria has won the contest on two occasions, the first being in 1966 when Udo Jürgen performed “Merci, Cherie”. It was 48 years later than Austria won again when Conchita Wurst performed “Rise Like a Phoenix” scoring a total of 290 points.
