Lithuania: Ieva Zasimauskaitė to Eurovision 2018

Ieva Zasimauskaitė will represent Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 with the song “When We’re Old”.

Eurovizijos 2018 was the last national final of the Eurovision 2018 season and took place in the Žalgiris Arena in Kaunas. After six heats, an online wilcard vote and two semi-finals, the remaining six artists went head to head for the chance to represent their country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The results were as follows:

  1. Monika Marija – The Truth – 4th
  2. Kotryna Juodzevičiūtė – That Girl – 5th
  3. The Roop – Yes, I Do – 3rd
  4. Paula – 1 2 3 – 6th
  5. Jurgis Brūzga – 4love – 2rd
  6. Ieva Zasimauskaitė – When We’re Old – 1st

The winner tonight was decided by 50% public televote and 50% jury voting. There was no super-final as seen in other nations selections.

Two singers who will also be competing in this year’s contest in Lisbon performed as interval acts tonight. Saara Aalto from Finland performed “Monsters”, while Iceland’s Ari Olafsson sang “Our Choice”. Iceland was the first country in the world to recognise Lithuania’s Independence from the Soviet Union on 11 January 1991. Lithuania is currently celebrating 100 years since their original independence.

Former Lithuanian Eurovision participants Fusedmarc (2017) and Sasha Song (2009) also performed in the final. Alongside these singers are Bjelle, Thundertale, Original Copy and Monique.

Ieva Zasimauskaitė will perform in the first half of the first semi-final on May 8.

Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest

Lithuania debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, however on their debut they finished in last place with nul points. Lithuania didn’t return to the contest until 1999 when Aiste finished 20th with the song “Strazdas”. Lithuania’s best result came in 2006 when LT United performed “We Are The Winners”, they finished 6th in the final with a total of 162 points. Lithuania’s only other top.10 finish came in 2016 when Donny Montell performed “I’ve Been Waiting For This Night” in Stockholm, he received 12 points from the public in Ireland, Norway & United Kingdom.
