The line up for the 2018 edition of Melodi Grand Prix, Norway’s Eurovision selection show, has been revealed.
This afternoon, at a press conference in Oslo, Norwegian broadcaster NRK revealed the 10 artists who will compete in Melodi Grand Prix (MGP) 2018. The line up features some familiar faces for Eurovision fans, with 3 of the country’s former representatives returning to the contest.
The full line up is as follows:
- Charla K – “Stop the Music”
- Alejandro Fuentes – “Tengo Otra”
- Aleksander Walmann – “Talk to the Hand”
- Stella Mwangi & Alexandra Rotan – “You Got Me”
- Vidar Villa – “Moren din”
- Tom Hugo – “I Like I Like I Like”
- Ida Maria – “Scandilove”
- Rebecca Thorsen – “Who We Are”
- Nicoline – “Light Me Up”
- Alexander Rybak – “That’s How You Write a Song”
Last year’s Norwegian entrant Aleksander Walmann, who represented the country in Kyiv alongside JOWST with the song “Grab the Moment”, will return to MGP alone. If he went on to represent Norway again this year, he would be the first artist to represent Norway over 2 consecutive years since Jahn Teigen in 1982/1983.
Another returnee is Alexander Rybak, Norway’s most recent winner. He represented the country in 2009 with “Fairytale” and scored one of the most convincing wins in Eurovision history. Under the old voting system, “Fairytale” broke the record for the most points ever scored at Eurovision. Also of note in this line up is Stella Mwangi, who represented Norway in 2011 with “Haba Haba”, which failed to qualify, and Rebecca Thorsen, whose song is composed by Norway’s 2015 representative Mørland.
Along with these former Eurovision entrants, punk-pop singer Ida Maria will debut in MGP this year. She has had huge success in Norway, and also found success in the UK charts back in 2008 with “I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked”, which reached #13 in the charts.
These 10 artists will compete for the right to represent Norway at the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon in May. Melodi Grand Prix 2018 will take place in the Oslo Spektrum on 10 March.
