Austrian representative at the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest Wilfried Scheuz has died aged 67.
Some sad news hits the country of Austria as their 1988 Eurovision representative has sadly passed away after battling with cancer. In his last interview with noe.ORF.at, he said:
“It makes me happy how cordially people now deal with me in the catastrophe I am in – and it is a catastrophe, you do not need to go away. I am very grateful for that. I try to pull the positive out of what is happening at the moment.”
On Sunday 16th July 2017, he died in the late afternoon in the hospital Lilienfeld.
[tw-divider][/tw-divider]Who was Wilfried Scheuz?
Wilfried Scheuz was one of the founders of a genre of music called Austropop. He had released his first album in 1974, and his last album only last month, making for a 43 year career in the music industry. At only 23 years old, he became popular amongst the Austrian public for his song “Ziwui Ziwui”.
At the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, Ireland, ORF has asked Wilfried to represent his country of Austria. Together with Ronnie Herboltzheimer and Klaus Kofler, he wrote his own entry “Lisa, Mona Lisa”, which unfortunately finished last at the contest with zero points.
After Eurovision, he kept on singing and composing songs and never lost heart. In the 90s he worked as an actor in theatre and film, staring in the television series “Die Leute von St. Benedikt”. Along with his wife, Marina Tatic, he founded the Vereinsmeierei, in his home town of Pressbaum, which was a cultural association and culinary arts. In 2012, he made a comeback with his album “Tralala”. Since then, he’s been featured in a 2014 documentary, and released his album “Gut Lack” a month before passing away.
