ESC’17: Casting For Stand In Singers & Dancers Completed

The auditions for the the stand in singers and dancers for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine have been completed.

Earlier this week singers and dancers from across Ukraine took part in an auditions process to find the stand-ins for this years performances. The stand-ins will be performing the routines that each delegation has submitted for their song and performance at this years contest. They will be performing on the stage in Kyiv at the IEC, in the weeks before the delegations arrive in Kyiv. The performances are sent to the delegations, who will then be able to make further changes to their performance before the first rehearsal at the start of May.

The jury that selected the stand-in dancers were:

  • Yuri Prystayetskyy – Director and Creative Producer of the X-Factor Ukraine
  • Roman Dmytryk – Dancer
  • Marvin Dietmann – Choreographer

A number of stand in rehearsal videos emerged online after the contest, showing the importance of the rehearsals to the contest. It is clear from the stand in rehearsals that Bosnia & Herzegovina, changed their graphics for the rehearsal . While for Ellen Benediktson her role as a stand-in singer for France in 2013, eventually saw her go on and compete in Melodifestivalen in 2014 and 2015, launching her career as a singer.

A total of 43 countries are to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Returning to the Eurovision stage are Portugal and Romania who both took a year out from the contest in 2016. Bosnia & Herzegovina has however withdrawn from the contest due to financial difficulties at the national broadcaster, BHRT. Ukraine is hosting this years contest thanks to the victory of Jamala with the song “1944” in Stockholm, Sweden. The 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is being held on the following dates:

  • Semi Final 1 – 9 May
  • Semi Final 2 – 11 May
  • Final – 13 May
