DR has revealed a new method in selecting the entries for next year’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. Whilst in previous years the finalists have been chosen behind closed doors, this year the broadcaster has enlisted the help of a jury to make the decision. This new method follows two years of Denmark failing to qualify for the final.
The jury is made up of 50 Eurovision fans, TV viewers and music experts, who met for the first time on Monday 10th October to listen to 41 of the 1,100 submissions for the upcoming show. DR’s head of entertainment, Jan Lagermand Lundme, has said that the reason for this new method is a desperation to get Denmark back in the Eurovision final. He hopes that by adding more voices to the selection process, the very best of the submissions will go forward to the final show in February.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017 will take place in Herning on 25th February 2017.
