This Wednesday Lighthouse X, who represented Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, will perform at Copenhagen Pride. If you’re a big fan of the group then this is the performance to see, because it’ll be their last.

The three piece boy band made up of Søren Bregendal, Johannes Nymark and Martin Skriver came together in 2014 and released their debut single, Kærligheden kalder, in October of the same year. Three singles and one year later, despite not having a great deal of success in the Danish charts, the group had started to establish a name for themselves.

In February 2016, Søren, Johannes and Martin entered Dansk Melodi Grand Prix held in Horsens, and won the show with 42% of the public backing their song ‘Soldiers of Love’ to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest. For Johannes, this was the second time on the Eurovision stage after appearing as the keyboard player for Italy in 2014.

In Stockholm they performed in the thirteenth position of the second semi final, finishing the night in 17th place and therefore failing to qualify to the grand final.

Lighthouse X announced via Facebook that they will be calling it a day later this week.

Dear everyone, We have decided to play our last Lighthouse X show during Copenhagen Pride this coming Wednesday. We are ending our four-year adventure, which has included winning the Danish Melodi Grand Prix as well as a unique collaboration with our dear friends at Call me, with whom we have been fighting for a good cause – a better and more compassionate society.

What started out as an idea and a vision four years ago evolved into a fantastic project, which has shown completely new ways of how the worlds of culture and business can collaborate and take on an active role in society as ambassadors of positive change. We have felt a little bit like the bumblebee that shouldn’t be able to fly – but, wow, how high we managed to fly after all. It is both beautiful, inspiring and deeply meaningful to us to be able to think back on everything we have created and experienced together. A lot of it we would never have been able to achieve without the impressive support from fans and supporters, both in Denmark and internationally. Our hearts are full of gratitude for your support.

With Lighthouse X we have achieved more than we ever dared to dream that we could. The last four years have been an incredibly amazing journey for us, during which we have performed in front of a countless number of people, listened to their stories and done everything we could to make a positive change in the world. All along, we have been side by side with a passionate team at Call me, the fourth member of Lighthouse X. That was our mission when we founded the band in 2012, and we have accomplished it.

Lighthouse X has always been a project with a limited lifespan, and all three of us agree that Copenhagen Pride, with its focus on diversity and freedom of speech, is the ideal occasion for shutting down Lighthouse X for now. So we are going to stop while the going is good – really good, even! – and we are looking forward to saying ‘until next time’ to all of you, our supporters, who have followed us and supported us, and we hope to see all of you on August 17th.

As we are writing these words, deep love and gratitude are flowing through us. The many messages and mails we have received from you over the years, and all the conversations we have had with several of you around the country, tell us that there is, indeed, an army of soldiers of love out there. We are proud to have walked side by side with you. THANK YOU for everything we have experienced together. You have given us memories for life!

Many loving regards,

  1. They definetly should’ve qualified alongside Norway. Swap them with Serbia and Georgia and I would’ve been pleased!

      1. Georgia was my 11th place and Serbia my 12th or 13th (not quite sure) in the semi, and Latvia really fell down my ranking after the live performance to a 10th place, having a tough fight with Georgia for the last final ticket… I thought the Serbian entry was too dramatic, it was like an English version of “Molitva” but worse… Anyway, that’s just what I think. 🙂

        1. In my ranking, Georgia was 10th (before the show they were 18th! :P), Serbia was 6th and Norway was 4th. Denmark was 17th but I still liked their song. I just think both Semi-Finals, especially the second one, had too many great songs. 🙂

          1. By the way, Latvia was 15th. I liked their song too but I think the staging was totally wrong and Justs was exaggerating. I prefer the performance in Supernova. 🙂

  2. They are lovely guys but Denmark shouldn’t have chosen them. Simone and Anja had both much more chances to do well.

    1. Definetly, three countries sent the wrong songs this year according to me. Denmark (which had a good song anyway) should’ve chosen either Anja or Simone, Sweden either Ace or Wiktoria and Poland (which also had a good song anyway) should’ve picked Margaret over Michal.
