The EBU and SVT have confirmed that “If I Were Sorry” this years Swedish entry to Eurovision 2016 is not plagiarised.
Last week it was reported in the Swedish press that investigations had begun into Frans’ song in Melodifestivalen. At the time it was said that the song was very similar to another song that had been previously released. SVT and the EBU have both now looked at the song in detail and determined that “If I Were Sorry” can compete in this years Eurovision Song Contest.
Jon Ola Sand the Executive Supervisor of the EBU told Expressen that:
None of us or SVT believes that this is plagiarism. There have been pop music for over 70 years and there are many songs that may sound similar, but plagiarism is a legal term and sometimes authors and says that “this is my song, he has stolen my song.” Then we have to go to court to prove it. But no one has contacted us, no one has contacted SVT and then there is seemingly no plagiarism.

I think Jon Ola Sand and the SVT are the only few that don’t hear the Swedish song sounds really a lot like ‘Catch & Release’ by Matt Simons !!
They nerver sid that the two songs didn’t sound similar, but there is a difference between sounding similar and plagiarism
