Jamala has won the Ukrainian national final today in a very close race with the group The Hardkiss. She won the selection on her second attempt after finishing 3rd in the scandalous 2011 final. Her song โ1944โ is being sung in memory of the Crimean tatars, Jamalaโs ancestors, that were expulsed from Crimea to Central Asia in that year. The song is half English and half Crimean Tatar, a Turkic language.
