After the success of 2015 Belgium have high hopes for 2016. It’s up to VRT next year to select the Belgian participant which means Eurosong returns to our screens again in the new year. A total of five artists are competing to represent Belgium one of which is Adil Aarab. We spoke to Adil Aarab ahead of the first live show about his career and why he wants to represent Belgium in Stockholm.
It’s under a month to go until you know if you’ll be representing Belgium at the 61st Eurovision Song Contest, this has to be one of the highlights of you career as a singer?
Yes of course it is an honor to participate with the Eurovision and be part of one of the biggest national selections. It would be a dream come true to if I go to Stockholm. So much experience and so many people I meet in this professional area.. I’m so excited for the shows and going on this journey it feels great.
You first gained recognition in Belgium as a singer back in 2007 when you finished 9th in Idool, what was it like performing on such a massive show?
Yeah i was 16 years old so everything was big and I was still searching the right direction… But definitely an amazing time ! 🙂
Currently you are part of a band called Adil & A.K.A can you tell us more about how the band came into being?
When i came back to Antwerp after living in Barcelona for 2 years I met this amazing man called Abdelkariem Asselman. He was one of the few people that inspired me to pick up the music again and searching a new style/path/influence etc. We called our first style R&S (Rhythm and Soul). After a few YouTube videos we were getting bigger and bigger so then Mike Hendrickx and Micha Teller became part of the band. Now Abdelkariem his Wife (Tasniem) and Bounce Entertainment are also part of the Adil & AKA family. The band + management is in FULL expansion.. we’re having more gigs and a strong crew behind us
Moving onto your participation in Eurosong, what was it that made you decide to apply to take part in the selection?
Being allowed to participate in the creative process.
When you got told you would be participating in the selection what was your immediate reaction?
Really happy and surprised.
You won’t be performing the song you want to take to Eurovision 2016 until the second weekend in January, but can you tell us what we can expect from it?
Expect elements of nature, truth, hope and a lot of energy.
Loïc finished in 5th in Vienna with the highest points finish ever for a Belgian entry, if you do win the selection your following in massive footsteps. Is it greater motivation to aim for that sort of result than just hoping to get to the final?
I will enjoy every moment on the stage… what will happen will happen.
How would it feel for you to step onto the stage next may in Stockholm and perform for millions of viewers not only in Europe but in Australia and China?
