Romania: TVR Could “Go Into Default”

More Financial Issues At TVR

TVR the Romanian national broadcaster could go into default according to the former General Director of TVR,ย Stelian Tanase.

The broadcaster which has long had a history of financial issues, the latest sees the former General Director of the station saying that the company may go into default within the next couple of months. Stelian Tanase was today dismissed as the General Director of TVR, Irina Radu has now taken the role. The Leader of the Social Democratic Party in Romania, Liviu Dragnea has said on the matter that:

We are today in a situation where the 2,700 employees have no guarantee they still have job security and do not their fault. We are in a situation where citizens pay taxes for TVR, but I do not have any guarantee that this institution can work. We are in a situation where the current management of TVR has undertaken a plan recovery that did not respect.

At this stage it is not known what the further cuts at the broadcaster will affect but Eurovision remains a priority for the channel due to the large viewing numbers and interest that the competition has in the country.
