Tonight, the first show of Wer singt für Österreich?, Austria’s national selection took place. A total of sixteen acts performed in front of a panel of judges, and only six progressed to the next stage of the competition. The results of the first stage of the competition were as follows (qualifiers in bold):
- The Makemakes – Million Euro Smile
- Clara Blume – Love and Starve
- Royal Combo – Ram Pam Pam
- Dawa – On the Run
- Zoe – Adieu (Goodbye)
- Renato Unterberg – Love
- The Su’sis – This and That
- Lemo – So Leicht (So Easy)
- Mizgebonez – Murmeltier (Marmot) / Fitnesstraining
- Kathi Kallauch – Das Leben ist zu kurz (Life is too short)
- Folkshilfe – Seit a poa tog
- Kommando Elefant – Mein Design fürs Leben (My design for life)
- Tandem – Zeig ihn mir (Show him to me)
- Celia Ann – I never loved a man (the way I love you)
- wo/Men – Happy
- Johann Sebastian Bass – Heart of Stone
These six acts will now go through to the next stage were they get to perform their vocal ability. This show will be shown next Friday 27th February.
In the third show, each of the six artists will sing two songs each, with only one of their songs progressing to the final stage of the competition. These songs they will sing will be chosen by international as well as Austrian music professionals.
Finally, the final which will be held on Saturday 13th March sees the artists singing their chosen songs, and a 50/50 split of televoting and jury voting will determine the winner.
As the host country and winner of Eurovision 2014, Austria will compete in the final on Saturday 23rd May.
