Eurovision 2015 stage design has been revealed!

Today, the Austrian broadcaster ORF has released pictures of the stage design for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in May.

The stage is ocular shaped and aims to connect the rest of the world with the artists, their delegation members and the studio audience. Kathrin Zechner, ORF’s TV director explained the vision behind the stage design:

“The vision for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is the bridge from the past to the present and the future. The eye is a symbol of this bridge – a mutual respect between cultures, countries and people.”

The stage features 1288 individual pillars, designed in a cylindrical shape, which measure a width of 44 metres, a height of 14.3 metres and depth of 22 metres. These pillars feature LED lighting and can produce a diverse range of a effects. The stage floor, which is measured at 11 metres in diameter can also produce these effects. Accompanying this will be a large LED wall which will sit in the background, which measures 8.5 metres in height and 22 metres in width.

The creative team behind the stage design consists of Florian Wieder (Production designer and creative producer) and Al Gurdon (internationally renowned lighting designer), both who are winners of the Prime Time Emmy Award. Wieder was previously involved in the production of the 2011 and 2012 Eurovision Song Contests, and has also produced stages for U2 and Beyonce. Gurdon has also been involved in producing both the 2009 and 2010 Eurovision Song Contests, and has also collaborated with Wieder on various projects. Joining Wieder and Gurdon on the creative team is the senior producer and head of the Eurovision directing teams, Kurt Pongratz. He has also been involved in the production and design of international TV shows, but has also worked on a number of ORF TV events such as Dancing with the Stars.
