Today we bring you our interview with Daniel Levi who is hoping to represent Estonia at Eurovision 2015. This is the first time that he has participated in Eesti Laul, here is what he had to say.
Firstly, how does it feel to know that you could be representing Estonia at Eurovision 2015?
It feels surreal! I have always loved to watch Eurovision growing up. I love to see how each year the technical side of the show gets better and better, and its interesting to see different patterns that run across all the songs depending on other pop songs that year.
You recently released your first ep, which can be downloaded on your website and people can pay as much for it as you want. What has the reception been to it?
We recently released a self titled EP, and we made it free for downloading off of our soundcloud page, because the EP was crowd-funded through a kickstarter type web portal called Hooandja.ee. Since everyone helped pay for the recording, it was only fare to give the album away for free! We don’t regret that decision at all and the response has been amazing! Really encouraging!
For a young artist what does it mean to have the opportunity to perform on national television in front of thousands of people not only in Estonia but across the world?
Usually when we perform on TV it’s very casual. We play our songs and the show is over. But with Eesti Laul and Eurovision there is so much extra stress and excitement that comes with it. It’s really nerve-wrecking!! But we don’t over think things and we always give our best, so no worries.
Your song is called “Burning Lights”, can you tell us a little bit about it?
Yeah. The song is called Burning Lights. I wrote the song one day, when the electricity had been gone from our apartment for a few weeks. So my wife and I lived by candlelight mostly. The song really talks about how some people can shine brighter than any light can! Some people can light up a room just by entering it.
