Our interview with Conchita Wurst

Recently, Eurovoix were lucky enough to speak to Conchita Wurst, the 2014 Austrian representative who tried to also represent Austria in 2012.

Here’s how the interview went:

Hello. May I congratulate you on being selected to represent Austria at Eurovision! That is a huge thing! How does it make you feel?

oh thank you so much, it’s unbelievable! a dream came true. i feel so honored and i’m beyond happy.

When ORF first proposed the idea of representing Austria, did you have second thoughts or were you straight away thinking ‘Yes, I’m going to do this!‘?

well, actually my agent handed a concept to orf and after that they picked me. so i wanted it from the beginning.

You are one of the artists that everyone is interested in this year, how does this make you feel?

i’m so flattered and thankful. i hope that the audience will like my song and my performance.

How does it feel being in the Eurovision spotlight?

it feels so good to finally join the Eurovision family. i got the chance to meet so many people all over europe, because of this opportunity.

It’s noted that you tried to represent Austria in 2012 with the very optimistic song (and one of my favourite songs) “That’s What I Am” and you came 2nd. Did you expect to be beaten by Trackshittaz?

oh wow! thank you!!! well, i expected all or nothing at this night… as i always do if i’m honest 🙂 i really focus on the good things in life and that’s why i’m not sad about the 2nd place last time. no i got my chance 🙂

What are you aiming for in Copenhagen? Qualification or a win?

as i said, all or nothing 😀 hahaha you know, of course we all want to win, but for me would be the best thing if i get off stage and say to myself ‚i’m proud of you‘ i’m my worst critic.

Any hints about the song or staging?

hahaha I can’t really talk about it now, because everything is still in progress. but it’s gonna be a big song with a strong message and I hope, a stage performance you will enjoy.

On a more general Eurovision basis, what are your favourite Eurovision songs?

so cliché, it’s Celine Dion in 1988 🙂

Thank you for your time. Finally, have you got anything to say to the readers at Eurovoix?

thank you so much for your interest first of all and well i want to say hello to all the Eurovoix readers, and I hope that i’m gonna meet some of you in may 😉

We hope to interview Conchita again once the song is revealed.

Conchita will perform in the first half of semi-final 2 and her song will be revealed on the 7th of March.
