A total of four cities will be hoping to be the host city for the 20134 Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark. Yesterday Aalborg withdrew from the process to host the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, due to a lack of hotel rooms. This had caused fears that Herning, Frederica and Horsens would also drop their bids.
However it appears that all of the three cities in Jutland will continue in the bidding process. All of the cities are trying to stand out from the favourite to host, the capital city Copenhagen.
So here is a break down of each bid:
Copenhagen โ The capital city would use the same venue as the 2001 contest the Parken Stadium, however it would not be at its full 50,000 capacity as a football stadium. Copenhagen is just 20 minutes from the 2013 host city Malmo.
Frederica โ Is a bid by the municipality, which would see Messe C an 8,000 arena venue host the contest. The city itโself has less than 40,000 inhabitants and only 50,000 in the entire Municipality.
Herning โ Was the venue for the 2013 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the largest indoor venue in Jutland. With a capacity of 15,000 people the Boxen would be the same size as the Malmo Arena.
Horsens โ The wildcard entry so to speak, Horsens want to use their old prison as a full outside venue with capacity for 13,000 people standing. They are basing their bid around doing something different. It is only 35 minutes north of Frederica and 1 hour from Herning.
DR have promised to make an announcement by the autumn.
