RTL of Luxembourg have confirmed to esctoday.com that Luxembourg will not be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo next year. The 2013 contest is 20 year on since Luxembourg last took part in Eurovision where they finished 20th with just 11 points.
RTL said that due to a low budget and a lack of manpower a return in 2013 would not happen. RTL is currently focused on news programming and not that heavily on entertainment and music which would lead to an additional cost for the broadcaster.
Even though Luxembourg has not taken part for over 20 years winning Eurovision songs do chart in Luxembourg almost yearly, this years winning song by Loreen charted at No.1 on iTunes in Luxembourg the week after the contest.
