12xal reports that Isa Melikov has been named as the new Head of Delegation for Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
Eurovision winning composer and producer Isa Melikov is the new Head of Delegation for Azerbaijan at Eurovision. Isa is most well known for writing “Running Scared” which won the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.
Since Azerbaijan’s first appearance in the Eurovision Song Contest Isa has been heavily involved in a number of entries in both the adult and junior contests. Performances he has been involved with include:
- Azerbaijan – 2009 – Always – Produced the song that went on to finish 3rd
- Azerbaijan – 2017 – Skeletons – Co-wrote Dihaj’s entry for Kyiv
- Azerbaijan – 2018 – I Wanna Be Like You – Songwriter for the nations Junior Eurovision entry
- Azerbaijan – 2019 – Truth – Creative Director for Chingiz Mustafayev
Efendi who was due to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2020 with “Cleopatra” has been confirmed as returning to the contest for 2021.

Azerbaijan debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, they were represented by Elnur & Samir with the song “Day After Day”, they finished 8th in the final. In 2011 Azerbaijan won the Eurovision Song Contest represented by Ell & Nikki and their song “Running Scared”. The song scored a total of 221 points, receiving only three sets of 12 points from Malta, Russia and Turkey. In 2018 Azerbaijan failed to qualify for the final for the first time, having previously had a 100% qualification record.
