HRT Confirms Semi-Finals For Eurovision Young Musicians 2020

The host broadcaster of Eurovision Young Musicians 2020 has confirmed that semi-finals will be held at this year’s contest.

The host broadcaster of Eurovision Young Musicians 2020, HRT of Croatia has confirmed that semi-finals will be staying for this year’s contest in Zagreb. Semi-finals are set to take place on June 17 at the Bers Hall of the Zagreb Academy of Music, with the final scheduled for June 21.

Semi-finals were held at the 2018 contest having last been held in 2012 contest in Vienna, Austria. In 2018 a total of eighteen countries competed in six separate semi-finals held over two days. Six musicians were then selected by a jury to compete in the final.

HRT has not revealed how many semi-finals will be held at the contest in Zagreb, or the number of musicians that will compete in the Grand Final.

Eurovision Young Musicians 2020

The 20th installment of Eurovision Young Musicians will take place this year in the Croatian capital of Zagreb. This will be the first Eurovision event to be held in an independent Croatia. The Eurovision Song Contest was held in Zagreb in 1990, when Croatia was part of Yugoslavia.

Eurovision Young Musicians has been held bi-annually since 1982. The contest was based on the format of The BBC Young Musician of the Year in the United Kingdom. Performers in the contest must be aged under 18 years and are selected by their participating broadcaster. Each performer performs a piece of classical music of their choice accompanied by the local orchestra. The winner is decided by a jury made up of classical music experts and talents.
