The organisers of Liet International 2020 have confirmed that the contest in Aabenraa, Denmark has been cancelled.
Liet International 2020 in Aabenraa will not be going ahead due to the coronavirus. The cancellation comes after the Danish Government banned gatherings over 1,000 people during the past weekend. As a result the contest which was scheduled for April 3 and 4 will not be going ahead.
A statement from Liet International reads:
Together with Aabenraa Live we decided, that the risk of infection for the semi-final on the 3rd of April and the finale on the 4th of April is too big, also in consideration of the expected amount of people (audience, helping hands, artists). At the same time, the participation of approximately 100 foreign artists, who would arrive already from the 31st of March, would be an irresponsible risk.
We are very sorry that we are forced to cancel this event – both for the audience, the artists, our partners and sponsors and our organisers. We were really looking forward to celebrate the 2020-anniversary with this European music festival.
We don’t know yet, if we can arrange Liet International 2020 at a later point in time.
Tickets which are already paid will naturally be reimbursed.
Liet International 2020
Liet International 2020 was to be held Ginazzværket, in Apenrade/Aabenraa on April 3 and 4. On April 3, all 20 acts would haev performed in front of a jury and live audience, who decided which 10 acts progress to the final on April 4. Liet International 2020 was one of the official activities during the celebration to mark 100 years since the border between Denmark and Germany was created, as well as the 100th anniversary of the German minority in Northern Schleswig.
The twenty acts and competing songs were:
