🇱🇹 Lithuania: Over 1 Million Viewers for Pabandom iš Naujo 2022

More than one million people tuned in to Lithuania’s Eurovision selection during its six-week run.

4 out of 10 Lithuanian’s watched the Lithuanian Eurovision selection process for Turin. This works out to just over 1 million people having watched at least one of the shows. The final on Saturday night was followed by just over 250,000 people with a share of over 10%. Lina Petraitienė, Head of Media Research and Insights at Kantar, said:

“This is one of the most popular music broadcasts in the country, even the selections attract an impressive audience, and they reach the peak of the audience during the finals of the international competition.”

Monika Liu was selected to represent Lithuania at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest after she won Pabandom iš Naujo with her song “Sentimentai”. This is the first song that Lithuania will send in their own language since 2001, and will be the first song to be performed entirely in Lithuanian since its debut in 1994.

Following Saturday’s final, Monika revealed that her performance for Turin will be completely different from that of Pabandom iš Naujo.

Lithuania debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, however on their debut they finished in last place with nul points. Lithuania didn’t return to the contest until 1999 when Aiste finished 20th with the song “Strazdas”. Lithuania’s best result came in 2006 when LT United performed “We Are The Winners”; they finished 6th in the final with a total of 162 points. Lithuania has only finished in the top 10 on two other occasions; in 2016 with “I’ve Been Waiting For This Night” by Donny Montell and in 2021 with “Discoteque” by The Roop.
